Brief

IQ Student Living asked us to review their portfolio and find opportunities to expand and optimise their buildings, including those in need of refurbishment.

Response

Many buildings had excellent potential to expand using MMC, which kept disruption to existing operations to a minimum while creating new revenue and improving the student experience. We judged that many could take a two-storey extension using a lightweight building system.

Every building was different, some owned and some newly acquired, so we assessed MMC on each site individually, reviewed the planning strategy and structural feasibility, and produced a cost plan for IQ to review. We also looked at ways to unify the branding and student experience across the portfolio.
