Brief

iQ Bankside is an eight-storey student building in a central London location, with 150 studios that each have their own bathroom and kitchen. iQ asked us to refurbish it and improve the shared facilities.

Response

We updated the façade and created a clearer, more welcoming entrance.

On the ground floor, a new student reception and security office sits alongside new lounge and social spaces. The reception area uses natural materials, bold colours and comfortable seating, so it works as a place to meet as well as a front desk.

In the basement, we replaced refuse and laundry areas with a gym and private dining rooms for students.

Outcome

The refurbishment gives residents more shared space for socialising, fitness and group dining, and makes everyday interaction part of life in the building.
