Strukturea

Strukturea is a plug-and-play volumetric MMC system that lets multiple manufacturers produce the same module, anywhere in the world.

We developed Strukturea to tackle the issues holding back wider use of modern methods of construction. It was developed with input from international partners including Aliaxis and Reynaers, and contains several patented innovations.

Design liability and manufacturing inspections sit with the UK consultant team, Studio Anyo and structural engineers Adept Consulting, who supervise both off-site and on-site construction. Pre-qualified manufacturers produce the modules to our design specification under a manufacturing agreement, and a large project can use more than one supplier.

The problems Strukturea solves

• No single point of failure: the design and intellectual property do not sit with one manufacturer.
• No hidden voids: no unforeseen voids between modules.
• No complex fire strategy: fire safety is based on traditional wall construction.

How the system is built

• A concrete Lewis deck within a hot-rolled steel frame, with stud walls designed by UK structural engineer Adept Consulting.
• A factory-finished façade system, patented and developed with Reynaers, to reduce site works.
• No interstitial voids between internal walls, using a patented approach.
• Standard walling from a known supplier (for example British Gypsum), with no reliance on bespoke testing.

Innovation 01: a single fire line

Our patented fire approach replaces the twin wall and floor approach with a single, traditionally constructed line of fire defence. The inner wall is built as a standard wall, with no reliance on the second wall for compliance, and the fire strategy uses current wall board manufacturer testing, just as a traditionally built wall would. This removes the problems of concealed voids, disturbed void fillers and certifying fire stopping that nobody can see.

Innovation 02: factory-finished façades

Our patented façade system, developed with Reynaers, means each module is watertight, acoustically sealed and airtight as soon as it is placed, with limited site work to finish. Only limited access to the front of the building is needed, with no scaffolding, and the façade protects the module in transit.

Factory-finished risers

A self-sealing riser system developed with Aliaxis means each module can be 90% tested and completed in the factory. Once a module is placed, its mechanical and electrical services are sealed using a patented connection system.

Structural system

The steel frame comes in two sizes for efficient production. It is designed to UK regulations by a UK consultant, who also monitors production and construction, with maximum flexibility to create different apartment layouts.
