Brief

Building 11 at Royal Arsenal was designed with modular construction in mind, but many of the principles had not been fully worked through. We worked with modular supplier Forta Pro to give local support and make the scheme compliant with both the modular system and UK regulations.

Our role

  • Redesigned the layouts to comply with building control, while keeping the planning permission and meeting Berkeley Homes’ standards.
  • Developed the modular supplier’s system so it complied with UK standards.
  • Inspected the factory and assisted with installation on site.
  • Coordinated the model between the masterplan architect and the modular supplier, while the principal architect maintained the external elevations.

The detailed design was complex, but the result was a compliant modular scheme delivered to Berkeley’s standards.
