Barnsoul Holiday Lodges

Location: Landal Barnsoul, Shawhead, Dumfries DG2 9SQ

Operator: Landal

Type: Holiday lodge resort, based on our Torp lodge

Brief

Landal Barnsoul is a new holiday resort in the Dumfries and Galloway countryside in south-west Scotland, close to the coast, woodland, hills and local villages.

With Landal and the developer, we developed the concept for a mid-market resort that meets growing demand for sustainable holidays, with high-quality, low-impact lodges.

Response

We used our Torp lodge as the base design and worked directly with the manufacturer to develop a range of units for the operator:

Single units for couples, each with a hot tub. Double units with a shared central lounge, for two couples travelling together. Family units with bunk beds for larger groups.

Each unit has an extended terrace that follows the contours of the site, with space for the hot tub and outdoor seating.

Site layout

The lodges wind across the site and are spaced well apart. Each one is angled to frame views down the valley.

This avoids the repetitive grid of a traditional holiday park. The layout puts the landscape and the guest experience ahead of unit numbers.
