Nestled within the breath-taking natural landscape of Dumfries and Galloway in Southwest Scotland, Landal Barnsoul offers a unique location for holiday lodges for those seeking a back-to-nature experience. This idyllic location serves as the ideal base to explore the region’s stunning coastline, lush woodlands, rolling hills, and quaint local villages.
In collaboration with Landal and the visionary developer, we have crafted a concept for a mid-level resort that addresses the growing demand for sustainable holidays. This initiative aims to deliver a premium experience through high-quality, eco-friendly lodges designed to harmonize with the environment.
Response
The design narrative extends seamlessly into the landscape, as we extended terraces to create not just additional space but a sense of belonging within nature. Each terrace is more than a feature; it’s a luxurious stage for guests to unwind and bask in the beauty of their surroundings. With the hot tubs thoughtfully positioned, they offer an enticing invitation to relax under the stars, forging unforgettable memories.
Strategically placed, the units serpentine across the site, deliberately set apart to enhance the experience rather than overcrowd it. By orientating the units to frame the breathtaking views down the valley, we formed a pathway that elegantly guides guests into the embrace of the landscape. This approach shuns the monotonous repetition of traditional parks, prioritising the guest experience while allowing nature to take centre stage. We didn’t just design a space; we curated an experience, where the serenity of the landscape harmonises beautifully with the comforts of modern living.
As the architect at the helm, we took the base design of the Torp and collaborated directly with the manufacturer to fashion a breath-taking suite of units that not only met the operator’s requirements but also exceeded the lofty aspirations of the developers. We were determined to create a truly remarkable experience for every guest who set foot in this idyllic retreat.
We began by envisioning single units, each carefully designed to eminently cater to the needs of an intimate couple’s retreat. To add an element of unparalleled luxury, we incorporated hot tubs, providing our guests with a haven of relaxation and indulgence. The perfect recipe for an unforgettable romantic getaway.
For those seeking a communal yet private experience, we crafted double units with a central lounge area. Here, a pair of couples could revel in their connection while still enjoying the comforts of their own separate spaces. This design struck the ideal balance between togetherness and personal retreat, fostering an atmosphere of shared memories and cherished moments.
But we didn’t stop there. We recognized the importance of accommodating larger families, so we proudly introduced a family unit featuring cozy bunk beds. This unit became a sanctuary where parents and children could bond, creating lifelong memories amidst the beauty of their surroundings. After all, family time is precious, and we wanted to ensure every family felt at home in our retreat.
To seamlessly blend with the natural landscape, we extended the terraces of each unit, gracefully adapting to the contours of the site. In one stroke of brilliance, we created additional space for our guests to unwind and revel in the serenity of their surroundings. Not content with simply providing breathtaking views, we took it a step further.
