We are working as lead architects with Bourne Capital to redevelop Queensway including the retail precedent, new office provision in lieu of the market, repositioning of Queensway Ice and Bowl, two residential developments; a rooftop development and a new build infill project; and an extension to Olympia Mews into new co-working space. We are working with several interior designers and retail specialists bringing together the entire development into one cohesive package, delivering the retail provision as landlords architect. We are designing the residential elements to a modular approach due to weight restrictions on the existing building and car park but also exploring light weight construction techniques.
The design for the residential units are traditional in approach given the conservative nature of the Westminster Council in this location. We have simplified the elevation to minimise the amount of decoration but kept the scale, proportion and rhythm of the street to create a backdrop building in the streetscape. The challenge is to create this type of elevation with a modular system.
