Architectural masterplan, designed for the headquarters of Sinohydro Group Limited, which is located in Tianfu New Area, Chengdu, China. The proposal is for their regional headquarters and associated staff living accommodation. The concept is to create a living community. Sustainable use of water is at the heart of the design. The design incorporates a number of innovative sustainable water-based technologies including an algae tube system which generates power and a reed bed system to recycle brown water to create a natural water cycle within the development. The office development is based on an optimum plate of 18m, permitting a dual-aspect twin wall with cores designed at opposing ends to create a clear, uninterrupted floor plate. Design in collaboration with local firm PLT, this continues a long-term partnership in China.
Popoko Hotel Zhuhai, while working at SR, we undertook the design with local architects PLT of the 5-star local hotel (renamed the Bamboo Hotel). The scheme was a significant redevelopment of an existing hotel and retail complex into a modern hotel including restaurants, sauna, gym and retail complex. The design seeks to create an open elevation with a louvred screen to maximise views out while offering solar shading. The design created oriel windows at the end of the room to allow an integrated desk and sitting zone with views over Zhuhai. China Competition work, working with PLT given creative direction on their masterplan competitions. We have worked with their studio over many years and collaborate extensive on their competitions entries. We give concept proposals and manage the design delivery of the product, advising on the visuals and models to input best of practice design approaches from an architectural approach to their urban design principles.
