The Follaton house project was for a Grade II listed building in Teesdale. The building itself was a small country house built around 1840 and is considered to be of important heritage significance, and is typical of a late Georgian to Early Victorian villa.
The client’s brief was to change the building from a single house to an age-restricted assisted living facility and consulted with us on the viability of the project before purchase.
We liaised with the local authority and English Heritage to find the best use while respecting the listed status.
Alongside a wider design team, we worked through a complex pre-planning process and engaged early with the neighbourhood plan group and others so the development would be supported by the LPA.
Once this was done, a detailed scheme, including the conversion of the building, was submitted for permission to the planning consultant.
