Studio Anyo director James Walsh worked on the design of citizenM’s Tower of London hotel whilst associate director at Sheppard Robson (SR), with the brand and interior concept by citizenM and Concrete. This 370 room, city-centre hotel acts as their European flagship hotel.

Planning for the site was achieved in close consultation with English Heritage and The Tower of London, as it lies within the World Heritage Site. There is also a listed ancient monument, the Roman Wall, within the footprint of the project. Following significant local opposition, the sympathetic hotel design aims to create a positive addition to the prestigious backdrop.

The scheme was developed with consideration of the World Heritage Site listing and was designed to integrate within Trinity Square’s townscape, as well as to work harmoniously with the numerous historical assets within the site’s surroundings. The site design phase has involved the creation of a complex basement, connecting two lifts to the Tower of London tube station.

Through our partnership with CitizenM, James Walsh has been advising on citizenM’s Shoreditch development for a number of years. This scheme is located in the heart of Shoreditch Village development. It will include a 216-bed hotel and 8 residential units with retail and public realm works at the ground floor level. In addition, James worked on the Bankside citizenM whilst at SR.
